This November, two of our board members, Catherine Survillas and Donna Selnick, travelled back to Kenya to help Iruri celebrate the first two scholarship student graduates sponsored by our organization.  Help us celebrate by taking a look at some of the pictures they captured while there for the occasion.

Below are several albums of pictures.  To see the captions, select the "i" for "info" circle when viewing the first individual picture in each album.

What a day! Preparation began early at 7 AM with parents arriving and working together to arrange all of the food. In the end we served over 500 children and adults from the local community! We had plenty of food for all!

Geoffrey had everything so well organized down to every detail. We were able to serve over 350 children in 30 minutes and then it was the adults turn.

The Feast

On November 12th, the organization helped the Iruri community celebrate the graduation of the first two scholarship students from secondary school sponsored by our organization.  We helped by purchasing 2 bulls, the rice and soft drinks for a big feast and the community did the rest.  Geoffrey had everything so well organized down to every detail. We were able to serve over 350 children in 30 minutes and then it was the adults turn!

The Graduates

We came together that day to celebrate with our first two graduates, Martin and Jane. They are a model to the entire school and community that education does matter and will be their key to success. Both students spoke to the entire gathering about their hopes for the future and to remind us to help others less fortunate. Martin wants to be an engineer and will prepare for an exam in March and hopes to qualify for university. Jane, wants to go into the medical field and will also prepare in the sciences for an exam in March. We wish them all the best and will continue to follow their progress

Pen Pals

We first began our pen pal exchange in 2011 and it has continued and expanded.  When Catherine Survillas and Donna Selnick visited  this November, it was a time to deliver letters and pick up letters bound for pen pals back in the US.
